Cypress is located in southern California near the northern border of
Orange County, California. If you think Cypress is the perfect place
to raise your family then you are right. The vision of the City of
Cypress is to be an outstanding family-oriented community with a
thriving business environment. It is the perfect city to build or buy
a home. Cypress is considered to be a suburb of Long Beach though it has many resident industries. The first residents in the area now
known as Cypress were the
Gabrieleno, a Native American tribe of the Tongva people. During
those days, Cypress was lush grassland fed by numerous artesian
wells. The shelters of these early inhabitants of Cypress and of the
area were made in a conical shape of poles covered by thatched grass
or fibers.Cypress now is a growing city with legroom for more
growth.
The name Cypress was taken from an Elementary School with the same
name which was originally built in 1895, and had
taken
its name from the Cypress trees planted to protect the schoolhouse
from the seasonal Santa Ana winds. However in one old school photograph
unearthed by a city historian, no such trees appear. So just how
Cypress got its name still remains a mystery. The city never had many
cypress trees, local historians say. In fact, it once was called
Dairy City after its principal residents - dairy cows.
As of May 2005 estimates, the city population was 48,863. Actor John
Stamos of Full House fame and golfer Tiger Woods were born in the
city. The City celebrated its 45th birthday in 2001.
The City of Cypress is guaranteeing to maintain and enhance a safe,
attractive and quality environment in which you can live, work and
play.
