Laguna hills is home to some of Orange county's best medical
facilities, a large mall and many fine restaurants. Laguna Hills is
famous as being one of Orange County's lowest crime rates cities.
Nellie Gail Ranch sits on a promontory within the city and is a
contrast to the higher density neighborhoods that surround it. The
ranch is one of the better-known upscale communities in the state and
it does not have a gate.Nellie Gail is a Planned Unit Development
of one thousand three hundred and fifty five lots on one thousand three
hundred and fifty acres and consists of a mixture of tract and custom
houses in an equestrian setting, with homes ranging from seventeen
hundred to more than ten thousand square feet. It is one of only a
few communities left in Orange County zoned for large lots and
equestrian trails, and joins only Anaheim Hills, Villa Park, and
Orange Park Acres in their respective communities that limit the
density of the homes in the county.
The Nellie Gal Ranch also includes several large parks, miles of
equestrian trails and arenas, as well as substantial open space with
acres of trees.
Nellie Gail's reputation as an upscale California community is
softened by its equestrian setting and residential focus, unlike that
of the Beverly Hills or Newport Beach. The community also shuns what
it perceives as the flashy, commercial "nouveau riche" reputation of
other wealthy communities in the area. The ranch is also famous
having been mentioned in movies such as "Wild Things" (1998) and even
newspaper comics like Bill Keane's "The Family Circus." Such
references usually make fun of the wealth of the Ranch's inhabitants.
In the city, most people are middle class or better. Laguna Hills is
fortunate in that not many of its residents suffer poverty. It's
worth noting that college degrees are common in the city. Lots of
residents of Laguna Hills prove that it's possible to work from home
regularly
Notable stars that were born in Laguna Hills include Chad Carvin who
was one of America’s freestyle swimmers. He is the second man since
the legendary Mark Spitz in 1972 to win four individual titles at a
US Nationals (1997). Chad has won several titles in the FINA Short
Course World Championships, starting in 1997. At the 2000 Summer
Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Carvin was swimming in the heats for
the 4x200m Freestyle Relay Team, which eventually won the silver
medal.
