The City of Laguna Woods is located in the Saddleback Valley area of
South Orange County, ten miles from the Pacific Ocean. It is
California's newest and oldest city. Laguna Woods is relatively a new
city because it was incorporated in March 1999 as Orange County's
32nd city and it is the oldest city because the average age of its
residents is 78. Ninety percent of the City’s 4 square miles is contained
within the senior citizen gated community of Leisure World.

The
balance of the City
contains three additional senior residential communities and several
thriving commercial centers. Laguna Woods, California, in Orange County,
is 3 miles West of Mission Viejo, California and 42 miles South East
of Los Angeles, California. The city is included in the Orange County
metropolitan area. As of the year 2000 census, 16,507 people lived
in Laguna Woods. The City is also located between the San Joaquin Foothills
and the the Regency, Alterra Wynwood
at PalmTerrace and The Fountains. |

City is bordered on the north, east, and southeast by the City of Laguna
Hills, on the northwest by the City of Irvine, on the west by unincorporated
Orange County and the City of Laguna Beach, and on the south by the
City of Aliso Viejo.
Development of Leisure World began in the 1960s on 2,095 acres
formerly known as the Moulton Ranch. It was designed to offer a full
range of cultural and recreational experiences for active adults
within a safe and gardenlike setting |
