Seal Beach in Orange County, California was incorporated on 25
October 1915. As of the 2000 census, the city's population was
24,157. Incorporated as Bay City, the town made its official debut
with a population of 250 on October 25, 1915, during a night full of
music, food and fireworks. To the
northwest, just across the border of Los Angeles County, lies the
city of Long Beach.To the southeast is Huntington Harbor (part of
Huntington Beach) and the unincorporated
community of Sunset Beach.To the east are the cities of Westminster and Garden Grove. To the
north is the unincorporated community of Rossmoor and the city of Los
Alamitos.
Seal Beach sits on the coast as the gateway to Orange County between
the cities of Long Beach and Huntington Beach. Seal Beach celebrated
its 90th anniversary in October 2005. Governed by a five member
council/city manager form of government, who are elected by district,
Seal Beach has retained its quaint,small-town atmosphere. Seal Beach
isthe
home of Leisure World, a gated senior citizen community of
approximately 7-10,000 persons. The Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station
comprises 2/3 of the land within the City.
Neighboring communities include Huntington Beach, Westminster, Los
Alamitos and Long Beach. Seal Beach, California was named for the
seals that once swam the waters of this quaint seaside community on
the northern most border of Orange County,
