Stanton, California, in Orange County, is three miles North of
Westminster, California and twenty two miles South East of Los
Angeles, California. The people of the city are in the Orange County
metropolitan area. Stanton has a population of 37,403.It was 1911 when a city named Stanton first came into being. The city
of Anaheim proposed creating a sewer farm on area ranch land, but
farmers in the region balked and created a city to ward off Anaheim's
plans.As legend has it
- although there are still some conflicting
stories - the city was named after Phillip Stanton, a member of the
state Assembly from 1903 to 1909 and a man who wielded considerable
influence.
The area remained unincorporated until it again became a city in
1956, prompted by a west Orange County population boom and resident's
desires to preserve local control. In early 1987, the city shed its
longtime motto, "Crossroads to Vacationland," because it implied that atmosphere. Seal Beach
is
the home of Leisure World, a gated senior citizen community of
approximately 7-10,000 persons. The Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station
comprises 2/3 of the land within the City.
Neighboring communities include Huntington Beach, Westminster, Los
Alamitos and Long Beach. Seal Beach, California was named for the
seals that once swam the waters of this quaint seaside community on
the northern most border of Orange County,
